Salvador is fascinating and interesting for all the reasons you probably already know. There is much to do and see.
The only downsides are the high humidity and heat which makes day time explorations a bit taxing and safety issues. I found the main tourist locations to be well policed and safe, but if you stray from these you must be very careful. Ideally be in the company of local Brazilians who can help navigate the city safely.
I loved Casa da Mae in Rio Vermelho, great atmosphere, awesome music, nice food and safe.
I found the local people more reserved and more challenging to connect with than in Sao Paulo. I sense this is due to the 'tourist' nature of the city.

Carnival in Salvador, Bahia is a must!
Carnival in Salvador, Bahia is a must! You'll have to experience it for yourself. My favorite town was Rio Verlehmo, Ubers are affordable, and motorbikes, are the way to go. I enjoyed walking, you get to experience more of their stores, restaurants.

Salvador is an incredible place.
Salvador is an incredible place. Lots of history, culture and friendly people. Would definitely recommend as a destination. Just be sure to have some basic Brazilian Portuguese phrases handy, as English is not widely spoken at all.

We were warned by everyone, including hotel staff and friends, that Salvador is a dangerous place. This made it difficult for us to enjoy the city's beauty without any concerns. However, we decided to take a City Tour with a group to learn more about the city and identify the places we wanted to visit again. The city tour gave us a better understanding of the city, which helped us appreciate it more. Go to Pelourinho, Igreja do Bonfim and Farol da Barra.

We had an idea that this place was beautiful, but it exceeded our expectations. Every street made beuatiful pictures, there was a lot of history, music and dancing. At first, the hsitorical area felt very touristy but there are ways to get a more authentic experience. We will recommend to all of our friends traveling in Brazil to make a stop in Salvador.
The staff was so incredibly friendly! They were ready to answer any question and help in any way. The location is right in the center of historic Salvador, so you can get most places by foot.
The atmosphere and design is very charming- you feel you’ve been transported back in time.
One of my favorites was the incredible breakfast! It is made with pride, love, and care. You have to get the artisan bread! I don’t usually like bread that much, but this bread is great (with butter and homemade marmalade!)
I had a wonderful experience at hostal Barra. I loved the kindness of Newton the host, he was very kind and happy to help and give us recommendations. Such a nice person :)
The breakfast was really delicious and healthy, made of fresh fruits (papaya, mango, guayana, etc) and typical pastries. + an amazing view when we had breakfast (you could see the sea)
The location of the hostel was perfect, right in the pelourinho which was the historical center of Salvador.
The room was very good as well.
The hotel staff had refreshments to offer us when we checked in, which was appreciated after a long day of traveling from Rio. The rooms were nice and comfortable and our balcony overlooked the ocean, which is just across the street. The breakfasts were bountiful, with many different and tasty choices. As in Rio, I especially enjoyed the fresh fruits. The deck and the pool, which overlooks the ocean/beach are clean and comfortable. We left our valuables in the hotel safe, which was fine.
Lovely hotel in really nice safe area of Salvador with good night life n restaurants beside some nice beaches. Set in beautiful old colonial building with a beautiful architect designed modern extension with lovely gardens and courtyard's and some lovely modern art.really excellent breakfast and very very helpful staff when we lost a phone and one of our party had to cut their trip short. An excellent choice, way better than Pellegrino.highly recommended and good value.
Perfect in every way .being a small hotel made it comfortable. The room was a good size with spacious opening windows, good breakfast delivered to the room, comfortable beds and good hot water. helpful andfriendly staff made the stay even more enhance, half way up the hill (not too steep) but cafes and shops everywhere ,, up hill for more vibrant less pushy ones. Salvador is a great place and we had an excellent 3 days there
The location was excellent, close to the beach, the lighthouse and the restaurants of Barra. The apartment was in very good condition, clean and comfortable, with all the amenities.... a tidy kitchen, a lounge, bedroom and bathroom. I never met my host, but she was exceptionally helpful over WhatsApp, and speaks English, which is a bonus in Brazil. I highly recommend this apartment.
Fantastic property with beautiful view of the ocean and the city. Everything was clean and felt fairly new. Very comfortable bed and large room. Pool area was great as well with wonderful drinks and service and of course an amazing view. Also had a great view right from our room. Breakfast was great and right below the hotel is an area with several restaurants and live music.
Small place in an authentic neighbourhood of Salvador. It is a short walk to a lively market area with shops and stores, and around 15 minute walk to the main tourist area. The room is small and cosy, but it works fine. Not luxury, but why would you expect that in this price range anyways? Quiet place, good AC and the wifi works well enough. Nice people running the hotel.
Fantastic hotel in Salvador Bahia, very clean and comfortable, grate breakfast, tasty food, excellent restaurant in the property, outdoor swimming pool and sunbath facilities, quiet place, huge park, fitness.
Friendly and efficient staff! Beds are fantastic, you may choose from pillow menu.
I have been in room 820 - great ocean view!
Will visit again next year!
Location is great, close to the best urban beach in Salvador (Praia do Porto da Barra), Rio vermelho district where you can find amazing restaurants and bars and if you are in town during carnaval - location is even better - you are a few steps away from all the fun.
The owner Ana is super nice and flexible.
Was the best location for us, close to all touristic places, was not difficult or expensive to get an Uber to get to centre of town.
I’m front of Barra beach which is the best of the city and surrounded by many good restaurants and bars.
I would definitely stay here if I come back to salvador.
As a Hilton Diamond member I was very pleasantly surprised at what this small & cosy hotel offered ,with the best breakfast we have had in Brazil!
It's proximity to the historical centre made the walking distance very comfortable.Staff Really cared about us as individuals. Well done.
Good Bed, Excellent breakfast from 7am to 10 am, Friendly staff, I was on a pleasure and business trip as I had some work to do at the university of Bahia and the Hotel is conveniently located 5 minutes from the university. Also very close to the main attractions in the city.
The team is very welcoming and sweet. The rooms are clean and have air-conditioning, very important for the insanely hot summer of Salvador. The facilities are good and convenient, breakfast is simple but tasty, and the atmosphere is quiet, good place to work.
It has a very good location, facilities and breakfast. It is of easy access to the main tourist points in Salvador city, that can be easily taken by taxi, uber and public transport. We had our dinner at the hotel and we enjoyed a lot. Delicious!
What a gem! Everything was great in this boutique hotel. From the friendliness and readiness of all the staff, to the great rooms, the rooftop with swimming pool and the delicious breakfast. Definitely recommended when in Salvador.
very clean. I go twice a year to Salvador and after staying many hotels. This one is one of the clean one. I hope they add more protein to breakfast to make it little healthier. but well vacation mode. lol.
