Couldn’t have wished for a better place to stay! The morning of checkin, my partner put his back out and was as bed-bound for almost a week while it healed. We ended up extending our stay to almost two weeks to allow him time to get better and we’re so thankful we were checking into such a lovely hotel when this happened!
Our room (studio with terrace) was massive, the pictures don’t do it justice at all, beautiful big windows/doors with a lovely view of the garden letting in loads of light (but with big proper curtains for privacy if you want it) A comfy sofa and arm chair, dining table, kitchen with huge fridge and ample cooking facilities, lovely bathroom. The mattress was probably the best we’ve ever slept on in a hotel, so comfy, great pillows too. The AC was amazing and room very well insulated, we could turn the AC off all day while we were out and we’d come back to a room still cool. Plus the room was super clean and considering we were on the ground floor we were surprise we didn’t have any ants or bugs at all in the room. Lovely big pool that’s cleaned & maintained several times a week by a pool professional, big comfy, padded sun loungers. Tasty and varied breakfast menu - because we were there so long we tried everything on the menu and it’s all delicious and served fresh to order. Proper good French press coffee! Everyone who works there is happy and helpful and full of smiles and you can tell it’s a family run place. FREE water refills were a life saver! Two very cute cats owned by the family were also a joy to play with.
Some might fear the location is a little out of town but it’s a short 10 minute walk down the hill and you’re at the beach or in town, and there are a number of restaurants just around the corner from the hotel anyway as well as a small local shop selling snacks and drinks for a very reasonable price. Also, there are loads of options on Uber eats that deliver to the hotel if you want a chilled night in.

I've been to Unawatuna 4 times/years and that beautiful place changes for worse.
There is new oversized monster-hotel, water scooters, loud music, fireworks, higher prices...
In last 2 years 90% of tourists are Russians - some restaurants are only in russian.
Most likely, I am not going back.

Unawatuna beach has beautiful water and golden sand.
Unawatuna beach has beautiful water and golden sand. The part of the beach where I visited, the ocean gets quite deep very fast, and the waves seem to cary you in quite easily. I haven't seen any lifeguards or flags that would indicate the wave's condition, but local people were very kind to give information.
If you like hiking, the city has a nice trail to a beach called Jungle beach. Trough the same trail, you can pass by the Japanese Peace Pagoda, and if you are lucky you might see monkeys and lizards. The trail is more or less 40 min one way.
The restaurants from the hotels are very much on the coast, sometimes seems to close from the beach. But the food quality is good and affordable, and lots of these restaurants offer alcohol.
I stayed one day in Unawatuna and it felt enough time to discover what the city has to offer.

I heard that this used to be a great beach.
I heard that this used to be a great beach. Unfortunately I do not think it is today. Very exploited and there are many beach places renting out sunbeds. They can get away with having (very) crappy toilets because there are new tourists every day, they do not need a good review.
Having dinner on the beach was a strange experience, started out good but then a large company came and occupied the space next to us, ordering champagne, oysters and lobsters like there was no tomorrow, and we were forgotten about.
There are plenty of other beaches in Sri Lanka that are much better.
The staff are super friendly. Ranjit helped us and make us feel welcome. Our room was big and spacious with a good bathroom. We had a stunning view of the peace stupa from our room too and the beach. The cocktails on the lounge upstairs were so delicious and the infinity pool is perfect! We also had dinner here one night - very yummy and huge portions. They also do an amazing Sri Lankan breakfast - very hearty! There’s also a free Tuktuk shuttle from the hotel to Jungle Beach (which is so so beautiful) I would definitely stay here again.
Amazing! Great buffet breakfast, 5 mins walk from the beach, very clean with pool and garden, very accommodating staff. The owner, Sumith, is just amazing. He was very attentive and kind and really went the extra mile. I wanted to try woodapple fruit, and he specifically included it in the breakfast the next day. He provides transport to the beaches nearby and talks with you as a friend. I felt like home. I would not hesitate to stay again. Best Hotel in sri lanka 🇱🇰 👌 😍
Thank you so much.
We recently stayed for 6 nights at Galle Henna Beach House, located at the peaceful end of Unawatuna Beach. Its prime location offers easy beach access and proximity to great restaurants. The staff were incredibly welcoming, ensuring a comfortable stay. The breakfast, offering both continental and traditional Sri Lankan options, was consistently delightful. Galle Henna Beach House comes highly recommended for its serene setting, friendly service, and delicious breakfast.
The owners of this hotel are wonderful the staff are lovely and friendly, the rooms are spacious with very comfy beds and sofas. Wi-Fi is outstanding. Swimming pool huge. Omelettes are perfect and great coffee. Monkeys can be seen in the trees from the garden and the location is perfect it sits only a short walk from jungle beach which has a great restaurant and the beach is beautiful and the village on Unawatuna with loads of amazing beach restaurants and little shops.
Spacious room. Extremely hospitable hosts. Walkable distance to the main Unawatuna beach and the Jungle beach. The fastest Wi-Fi connection that I had in Sri Lanka. While checking-in I was offered breakfasts and dinners for less than 2 USD for each, ended up staying on a half-board. Breakfasts were filling and pretty good; dinners were very delicious. Cargills grocery store just 4 minutes away.
It is known that the people of Sri Lanka are extremely friendly, but the level of hospitality and friendliness at this accomodation is simply unmatched. The hotel is beautifull, tidy, the rooms are extremely nice. The beach on which accomodation is situated was for us (couple of 2) the most beautiful in the whole of Sri Lanka. We definitely recommend it and will come again.
This accommodation is the best we've experienced in Sri Lanka. The rooms are clean, stylish and you can see an attention to details which is often missing in other places. The breakfast is very good and you can choose from a wide selection. It has a beautiful garden, it's like having a mini jungle next to your room. Close to the beach, restaurants and shops.
The location was excellent, staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast very good and Sri Lankan also, private cooks preapred us on order special meats for lunch or dinner ( curry, fish, seefood) - everything really yummy; private beach with its own sunbeds und umbrellas; turtles in the sea and sometimes on the beach, nice garden with coconut palms...
Extraordinary place with lovely and caring owner. They help with everything and even organized a birthday breakfast with flowers, cake and candle We had a huge room with a private terrasse right above the sea. Very quiet, you only hear the waves and the birds but only ten minutes walk to the Center or the sandy beach..Best Hotel we stayed in Sri Lanka!
Literally the best place I've stayed in while in Sri Lanka. It is very clean and freshly renovated. Ruchira, the guy who runs the place is super helpful and just a pleasant person to be around. The location is good too, far away from the busy road that you don't heat it at all, but still close enough to the beach and the main town street in Unawatuna.
a true sample of excellent hospitality!
Without a doubt one of the favorite hotels, I stayed at during my time in Sri Lanka! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by the staff and general manager, our names were mentioned on the board and we were upgraded to the sea view Room. The staff was extremely friendly
It was a good beach hotel, value for money & breakfast was very tasty. As a beach hotel they have supplied aminities for the room and I think for that price more than worth and expected .Also they have beautiful wall art collection and it is very attractive.Good staff and room service.
A lot of fruits for breakfast, and tasty seafood for dinner (on special order). Owners are very attentive to meeting the needs of every guest, and they are very respectful. They make you feel like family; providing an awesome experience of Sri Lankan hospitality.
A wonderful, quiet and charming place on the temple hill. And the most wonderful hostess we‘ve ever met in Sri Lanka … If you read these lines and happen to stay here, please give our warmest and nicest regards to Manori (and Tutu, her lovely dog).
clean, hot water, comfortable bed, balcony, private, access to shared kitchen, lovely owners, close to the beach and a short bike / tuk tuk ride to central unawatuna. one of the best places we’ve stayed in sri lanka by far <3
Easy access to property. Location is very convient and walking distance to Unawatuna beach and resturants.
Villa is very clean and tidy. It is surounded by a big garden. Very calm and quite. Hots is very friendly.
A lovely air-conditioned room with all amenities, including a kitchen for all yourself. It is peaceful and very reachable to Unawatuna and Galle. I loved taking the short cut path from this place to Jungle beach.
Perfect place to stay in Unawatuna. Close to the beach and main area. Very nice room, wonderful hosts, fantastic breakfast and a cute dog. The best place that we have stayed at during our 6 weeks in Sri Lanka.
Good sized, clean room in a good location to reach the various beaches in the Unawatuna area.
The included breakfast was good, but basic if you're used to receiving the traditional Sri Lankan full works.
