Lovely staff - I felt looked after. The location is splendid - right near the boats quai for the islands and the park. There is a cafe/restaurant opposite with a view of the lake and surprisingly good food - great for a no fuss dinner. I love this kind of traditional Italian hotel - well kept, well run

Stresa is a small beautiful village on the shores of Lake Maggiore, that takes you back to a time of stillness, palaces, and beautiful scenery. The Borromeo Islands are out of this world. It’s easy to walk around, the stroll by the lake is super nice. Our favorite restaurant was casa Rampolina up the hill, offering delicious local food and amazing lake views.

A nice town with some good restaurants if you take the time to look for them away from the standard tourist haunts. Stresa is well located for visiting other areas around Lake Maggiore, Lake Orta and Lake Como.

We loved Stresa - there was a lot to do there and in the area. We took ferries to St. Catherine Monestary and to Isola Bella which was incredible. We also took a day trip to Lake Orta and did a hike up the hills for beautiful views of the alps. You could defiantly stay longer - it is a great base camp for exploring the area, especially if you have a car. But be warned - roads are narrow and winding and the Italian drivers are crazy. Stresa had lovey shops and so many good restaurant choices - the hotel staff was great at making recommendations.

I like the location of the town, the vibrant character of the town with its bustling shops and terrific collection of restaurants including a handful that are Michelin-recommended (but not starred YET).
I like the size of the town- not too big, not too small, totally walkable and easy to learn your way around!
A most beautiful location, on the wester shore of Lake Maggiore with snow capped Italian and Swiss alps visible on the horizons above the lake in early to mid may, and best (ferry) access to the 3 nearby Borromean islands, two with their beautiful tourable Palace and Gardens (Isola Madre and Isola Bella) and one for its shops and eateries ( Isla Pescatori aka Superiore).
Restaurant prices are ridiculously affordable compared to Milan or Switzerland: a foodie heaven. Michelin-listed restaurants (not yet "starred to my knowledge) serve exceptional and genuine regional fare, my favorites were Al Vicoletto, Ristorante Pizzeria Pappagallo, Lo Stornello, and the one we didn't have a chance to reach but will next time is on the hills above Stresa with the views called La Rampolina.
If you are a wine lover or foodie, be sure to stop by the La Cambusa Wine shop for a free tasting and learn the owner's secret favorites!

Stresa is a beautiful town with lovely walks along the lake.
Stresa is a beautiful town with lovely walks along the lake. The apartment was comfortable and beautifully decorated and well equipped for our stay. The train was about a 10 minute walk and has easy access to Milan and also to Switzerland. It was very quiet when we went and perhaps will visit when busier as some thing were still closed such as two of the islands but it was early in the year before the season began. The lake and views are stunning and well worth a visit, nicer than stayin in Milan city centre.

A very picturesque town right on the water.
A very picturesque town right on the water. However most restaurants were closed in February, the shops were closed on Monday and there was very little to do except take the ferry to Isola Pescatore and Isola Madre. After travelling further around the Lake I would stay next time at Arona. Much busier little town with lots of restaurants and shops open. As well as being on the Lake.
It is a good hotel, but i did nit like that reception had only 2 people for such hotel and we had to wait. Also the conserge woman was not helpfull, we asked a simple question amd she pointed us up to reception, but reception was busy as there are only two people working there. I think they shoukd replace the conserge woman.
Bed were very hard, not comfy.
Pool was good, breaast was also good. For dinner though i would reccomend another place.
Location is great as well.
amazing views over lake, authentic large apartment with good amenities
they provided help when electricity overloads and cuts out
lake maggiore is stunning and the huge balcony is simply superb for watching the light change over the day, very special
positioned very near the boat and bus stops and town shops/restaurants
best restaurant underneath with cheap gorgeous food!!!
restaurant staff very helpful, even called us an ambulance one night
Hotel is "in center of Stresa city center" . A few meters to the Lake waterfront. Despite its locatated in the city center there is very quiet because it is a pedestrian zone.
Recommendation for people who comes by car. Put to the navigation no hotel address but parking on Piazza Gugliemo Marconi near to ferry boat port. It is aprox 100 m from the hotel. And ask on hotel front desk parking ticket. Ticket on the front desk costs 10euros/24hrs
I had a wonderful stay. From the minute I arrived, the hosts (Giorgio and his parents) were incredibly welcoming. The apartment was modern, well-appointed and in a fantastic location - right in the center of Stresa and steps from the lake. The best part of the location is the sense of calm and tranquility (while having access to all the shops, restaurants and cafes in Stresa). Giorgio and his parents are wonderful people.
the best location in stresa!!!
the apartments are in a great location. very clean and well equipment. The host greeted us. the hot tub was great and the roof top terrace a perfect place to relax for breakfast/afternoon drinks. I managed to leave our passports behind. the amazing host reunited us with the passport by driving to our hotel in Milan!!! if you are going to Stresa stay here!
I rarely write reviews but this place is so nice, everything was exceptional. Great location by the waterfront, beautiful view and room, comfortable bed, super clean and a fantastic breakfast but what really made our stay a wonderful experience was the absolutely lovely owners and personnel. The service is 5 star! I think this is the best hotel I have ever stayed at, just book and GO!
The hotel is in an old building right in the middle of Stresa. Even though it overlooks the street, we couldn’t hear any noise through the night and the shutters kept the sunlight out in the morning. It’s a very short walk from Stresa pier for the ferry. The reception is actually in the restaurant but the staff were very friendly and able to balance our requests.
We were nervous booking a 3-star hotel (most 4-star hotels were sold out) but we could not have been more pleased with the Sempione. The staff was very hospitable and anxious to please. Our rooms were handsome, contemporary and well equipped. Most offer wonderful lake views. The location in Stresa is in the heart of town. We would certainly stay here again.
Lovely hotel with very pleasant staff. Good breakfast and pool. Very close to boats to visit the islands. Beautiful 15 to 20 mins walk by the promenade into the main town of Stresa. If you like peace and quiet this is the perfect place to be. We had a lake view room so worth it as each room has a balcony with table and chairs
Excellent breakfast, including cereals, yogurts, fruit juices, croissants, bread rolls, meats, cheese, jams, pastries, cake, fruit and choice of beverages in a pleasant dining room. The hotel was in a quiet location a short distance from the train station, boats to Isola Bella and 20 minutes walk from the centre of Stresa.
The breakfast was full of cheeses, breads, warm options, fruit, yogurts. The perfect amount to start a day on the move in Italy. The location with lake view is better than photos. Location is off the crowded streets of Stresa. If you want birds chirping and beautiful sunrises, this is the place.
Views of the lake - spectacular. The rooms are higher quality than most hotels, far more spacious, and there are two kitchens to cook in, one of which gives you the chance to dine with floor-to-ceiling views of Lago Maggiore. Fabio and Cristina are most gracious and welcoming hosts. A+
Stresa is a lovely place with a real history. Hotel Royal is a short but easy walk out of town and is comfortable. The staff were excellent and the breakfast very good. Staying here was like a little step back in time but I thoroughly enjoyed that and would gladly stay here again.
This is a beautiful character hotel, with hotel staff who go out of their way to make your stay memorable. We had a beautiful room with balcony, overlooking Stresa. The hotel is very well located to walk to town and to ferry terminals.
Definitely looks better in the pictures and the location is good. Just a short walk from Stresa center. Very quiet at night.
The rooms are new and modern.
