This is a fabulous property - its location is central and the house itself is beautifully appointed with a keen eye for detail. The artworks throughout the house are a delight. We had an outstanding experience.

We found everything was in easy walking distance and was a pleasant place to be. The cathedral and Bishop's Palace were superb, we took a heritage tour and really enjoyed that. There were plenty of real ale pubs and lots of them did food although we only ate at one (The Crown) as the food there was first class. We also ate at Good Earth cafe which was a marvelous find with extremely tasty food and large portions. The market on Wednesday was interesting but seemed to pack up early so a morning visit is recommended. The shops were an interesting mix and suited us for a wander but serious shopaholics may be disappointed.

The moated palace of the Bishop of Bath and Wells has a wonderful atmosphere as does the market place although its sad to see so many vacant buildings, even there. I was too late for dinner at the Swan and went for a lovely wander in the dark and discovered a delightful looking bistro that is open until 10pm and which I shall pre-book for my next year when I make my annual vist to the nearby Bath & West Show.

Fabulous small city. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Fabulous small city. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The Conservative club in the market square made us fresh sandwiches to takeaway even though take away wasn't on the menu. The city itself was very clean and well cared for. Independent shops a delight, market has an interesting mix of stalls. Well worth a visit you need more that an overnight visit to see it all. Even though the center is easy to walk around you need a whole day extra to visit the gardens and cathedral.

'England's smallest city' is worth the detour - and it is a detour. Set in lovely countryside, the unmissable sights are the beautiful Cathedral and historic Bishop's Palace in its wonderful gardens (worth getting a joint ticket for both). A great place for a weekend away, with a buzzing market on Saturday mornings and plenty of thriving independent shops, cafés and restaurants. Root on Sadler Street was especially good - mainly but not exclusively vegetarian and vegan, really inventive and fantastic quality ingredients and friendly service. There are plenty of friendly pubs serving great local beer and cider. Parking around the city centre takes luck or planning or both, but otherwise it's easy to walk everywhere.

Our trip was specifically to visit the rural levels and also to catch up on a friend in the area. We did not visit Wells on this occasion so can't comment specifically. However if you want to be well situated to explore the area Wookey Hole and its hotel is a good place to be. Locally there is the Ebor Gorge within walking distance and road access to most of the area is accessible although you must be happy driving on some narrow roads. Hotel is definitely not luxury but is clean and convenient with excellent staff. Good value for money if looking for convenience rather than luxury.

wonderful little city, easy for strolling / exploring. great history. location for fab cult film "Hot Fuzz" - check out the local guided tour. good places to eat. good market. parking is at a premium; not many places you can park up overnight (check out one of the car parks at the bus station - can park there for 24 hours).
An excellent 3 night stay while visiting family and surrounding areas. I arrived a little early but was readily checked in - luggage collected for me and a room upgrade too which was wonderful. Such a charming and characterful hotel with all amenities and a lovely helpful and friendly staff.
My room was extremely comfortable with plenty of space to spread out and unwind.
A convenient location right in the middle of Wells with its cathedral and bishops palace - some lovely little shops and I happened to land on market day too!
The place is amazing for it is an old, 17th century place. It ia basicely facing the cathedral even if not direct view on it. The rooms are quiet and simple but pleasant comfort. There is no luxury there, just pleasantly ancient and beautiful especially the pub with attractions sometimes like a band singing but the hotel is quiet. And it is as a foreign tourist great fun to live abive a pub and spend the evening drinking a glass of wine or else in "our pub"
This property is fabulous! The decor is lovely, the garden is gorgeous, the beds are so comfortable, and the shower has great water pressure. I kind of want to move in.
Do yourself a favor and make the walk into Wells across the Palace Fields. The approach to the city is fantastic and you can also see the Glastonbury Tor. This property was perfect in every way. I would love to come back for another visit. Thanks for a wonderful stay!
First of all the owner showed us warm hospitality. I really enjoyed the location. The area surroundings around our cute apartment, was beyond my expectations. The countryside was beautiful. I even took a walk and it was so close to the city center. Anyone planning a trip to Wells, consider this cozy studio apartment. Be warned that this place is a gem and probably will book up quickly as the tourist season approaches.
When we arrived we were given a warm welcome by Holly, and homemade cakes were on offer in the beautiful tea room. We stayed in the Master Bedroom which had phenomenal views of the garden, and of Wells beyond. The breakfast was extraordinary. Staff, grounds, location, all were incredible! Every room was a treasure. We felt like guests at a British country house in a marvelous novel!
Sarah, hotel owner was fantastic, couldn't do enough for us. Even made her washing machine available to us.
Terrific room, tastefully decorated with extras. Great bathroom, clean and functional.
All staff in hotel were welcoming. Parking was an issue but made easy with staff assistance.
Easy walk up to market square and stunning Wells Cathedral
Fantastic staff. Very old & atmospheric hotel. Lovely breakfast. Comfy room & fantastic views. They are also dog friendly, so I’m already planning a return with my family and the dog. Wells is a beautiful place too: very small, lots of lovely shops, fantastic cathedral and Bishops Palace and really easy to walk around.
Everything you could think of was provided. It was a beautiful apartment right in the centre of Wells. It was spacious with lots of personal touches which made it very comfortable. My sister and I often stay at The Swan Hotel in Wells but this apartment will now be our first go to when booking further trips to Wells.
Lovely old hotel, full of character, right in the centre of Wells. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Comfortable beds, nice modern bathroom. Great breakfast. Food in the evening looked delicious too. A popular pub and plenty of atmosphere. I would definitely stay again.
The property is a rare find only 2 miles out of Wells and on the edge of a small village with a few great pubs and farms all around. The working flour mill grinds spelt and whole wheat flour as its done for centuries, that goes into delicious breads served with breakfast.
- Location: it has a fantastic location closed to the cathedral and the market
- Lovely old building with some great character
- Availbility: we were able to book the room at short notice when most of the other hotels in Wells were fully booked
This is a truly exceptional family run boutique hotel experience. Everything about Beryl is welcoming and unique. It was the perfect environment from which to explore Wells.
Great location for bus to wells and bath. Good pub next door. Our hostess was so helpful and prepared the best breakfast! Highly recommended. Quaint and very cozy.
Spacious room, fab location, discounted rate for the cave when staying at the hotel.
If staying here do NOT follow sat nav, follow the signs from Wells instead.
Set on the beautiful Cathedral Green, it was the perfect base for exploring Wells. Right in the village and attractions accessible by foot which is great.
