You can walk along the canal for ten minutes to Conkers, a free park and the entrance to Conkers Water Park ( entrance fee.) Swadlincote is a good centre for countryside and riverside walks. It is handy for Derby, Ashby de la Zouch, Leicester and especially Burton-on-Trent. Burton is an excellent shopping centre. There is a lovely park by the river. You can take a tour of the local Brewery and have a lovely lunch, or snack in the tap house. The National Memorial Arboretum is very close just off the A38, and should not be missed - a tranquil and beautiful setting for memorials, not only to the Armed Forces but also the Police, victims of the Twin Towers, and many others.
