Comfy rooms, very spacious grand old place. It's a bit of a golden oldie tour bus stop. The staff are pros at getting people checked in and they are used to large groups.

The Inn is delightful. It has been really nicely done up - our room was lovely and very comfortable. The breakfasts were great and food in the evening was very good value for money. An excellent location for exploring the north east Fells. It's a community run Inn and everyone seems rightly to take pride in it.

We were on our way from Devon to Glasgow, and wanted somewhere not too far off the M6 to break the journey up for a night. We honestly couldn't have picked anywhere better than The Greyhound in Shap. Just a few minutes off the motorway, but it feels so tranquil and rural, you'd never think you were so close to a major route. Excellent as a base for the Lake District, but far enough out of the busiest tourist spots to offer great value. Such a lovely little hotel with a proper pub/restaurant downstairs, serving great food and beer. Our room was small but perfectly-formed, with a super comfortable bed. We will definitely use this place again if we're up in the area again. Highly recommended.

We stayed only 1 night and ate at the hotel, but it might be worth driving 4 miles to Alston if staying more than 1 night. The food was OK, but a little pricey.
I would definitely consider staying there again to break our journey from the Midlands to Scotland.

Location is just off motorway.
Location is just off motorway. Website states 2 restaurants and bar selling food until 10pm, this is not the case. Only 1 restaurant with limited choice and very basic food with vegetables and potatoes undercooked. Rooms are in need of refurbishment and lift and restaurant needed a clean. Food on the floor at our table from breakfast sitting. Wine is expensive for what it was. Receptionist and bar person were lovely but manager was rude and abrupt.

It was very peaceful location.
It was very peaceful location. Not far from M6 so ideal for a stop over or if staying in Lakes great for going off to spend the day out. Even better being able to come back to the peace and quiet after the hustle and bustle of the busy towns in the Lake District. Food was great so get a half board stay as really good value for money. Lovely places to walk through their own woods and see the delightful red squirrels that are resident there. Get free food for them from reception

Biscuits in the room would of been the icing on the cake, to be honest we've never stayed in a hotel where biscuits were not provided in the room. Bit petty but we love a biscuit with our early morning bedroom coffee.
The staff went out of their way to be helpful, even colleting me from Shap, 5kms away, after finishing a 30+kms stretch of the Coast to Coast Walk. Whilst running late they ensured I was still able to have dinner, even allowing me time to freshen up from the walk. Watching so many red squirrels in the wild, so close to the hotel, will stay with me for a long time.
Excellent hotel. Friendly helpful staff with top-notch customer service skills.
Good sized and very clean en suite rooms.
Breakfast & evening meals were 10/10.
All in all an enjoyable stay and we felt at ease during all of our 3 night stay.
Would highly recommend. Iain & lesley (Evesham worcestershire)
Very nice studio with good en-suite bathroom in a very good location. This is a barn conversion just off the main street of Shap, a village with a co-op shop near the accommodation and a chippy equally close by. The studio is on the ground floor and has parking outside the door.
Beautiful cottage, very comfortable bed and great value for money. Loved the fact that they are dog friendly and that our furry family members were able to come with us! Shap Abbey is very close by and worth having a walk around if you want to take your dogs for a walk nearby.
Thank you for supper, the chef kindly put up a meal despite my late arrival, due to not spotting any signs of the main road.
See the Red Squirrels in the morning was a bonus, my parents had been to the hotel on a coash trip and had remarked about the red squirels.
Lovely hotel and friendly staff. Rooms were clean, the bar offered excellent meals and the breakfast was fantastic. Car parking at the back was a bonus. Really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend staying here or having an evening meal.
Really lovely hotel with a pub downstairs. The hotel itself was more than accommodating with lovely staff the room was comfortable and really good value. I'd recommend the pub for dinner as we had a amazing meal! And was very reasonable priced.
The breakfast was well prepared, with a good selection of foods. The location of the Hotel was as expected and the traffic noise was acceptable as the A6 road used to be a main road into Scotland prior to the M6.
The surroundings are excellent. The hotel is situated right next to the fells, and there is a lovely short walk outside up past the rapids. It can be a bit boggy, but we survived without any fancy footwear.
Extraordinary location. Hotel built in the 1890s with photos from aristocratic visitors in the 1940s. Now updated with fab karaoke aimed exactly at its elderly demographic.
All aspects of our one night in Shap were very satisfactory.A warm welcome, helpful advice.A very comfortable bed,good-sized bathroom and quiet! Breakfast was tremendous.
Beautiful hotel in a quiet location only 3 miles from the M6 with friendly & welcoming staff. A good dinner & excellent buffet breakfast. A lovely view from our room.
