Beautiful views, very comfortable bed, and a lovely bathtub. Magnificent meals at the hotel and terrific staff. A space near our room to sit outdoors admire the view. Alongside the hotel is a path of about eleventy million stairs, don your boots and do it… it is beautiful. I don’t know how anyone could not enjoy spending time at Betws-Y-Coed.

Lovely property - really nice owners as well. Very quiet and serene surroundings. Everything was clean and organised. The breakfast was lovely and really good value too. Just something to be mindful of is that the apartment we stayed in was up two flights of stairs and there’s no elevator in this one yet.

The cottage is just outside the main village of Penmachno.

The cottage is just outside the main village of Penmachno. It is a cottage in a small street of old miners cottages. It is nearby an old slate quarry that closed in the 1960s. Some of the cottages are residential, some are bring refurbished and one or two are run down. There are no shops in the main part of Penmachno, you can drive into Betws-ye-Coed which is approx 20 min drive- it has a Londis abd Spa supermarkets, lots of lovely restaurants to choose from. If you like a quiet peaceful and beautiful location this cottage is perfect. You can go for a walk locally and also explore the old slate quarry Good location for North Wales- about 45 minute drive to Snowdon. We also had a day white water rafting and canyoning at the Wales White Water Rafting centre which is about 30 minute drive away.

Penmachno is a tiny village set in a beautiful glaciated valley. Full of the historic legacy of the slate industry and modern sheep farming. We enjoyed walking the Slate Trail from Penmachno to Betws-y-Coed - a 20km whole day trip for able hikers. We parked in the church car park (giving a donation), morning coffee at Conwy Falls, lunch in Betws-y-Coed. Celebratory beers from Londis on our return.

Penmachno itself is a quiet village set in a valley at the base of several mountains. There's not much to do in Penmachno itself but it is well located for getting to lots of tourist places and attractions, particularly the Zip Wire forest sites, underground adventures and waterfalls. There's also the superb Conwy Cafe at the junction with the A5 and the road to Penmachno.
