Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.
The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.
Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.
Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.
As the capital of North Argyll, Oban has a great selection of hotels, guest houses and B&Bs available on Booking.com.

Oban is an absolutely beautiful coastal town with great access to the rest of the Highlands. The ferries were very easy to use and we had a wonderful time exploring the Isle of Mull and travelling past the Isle of Kerrera on the way. Also make sure to head towards Dunollie Castle and take the tour round - a great time if you enjoy history or stories of the clans.
All of the food establishments that we went to were delicious and had great options. Highly recommend the ceilidh dancing on a Monday and Thursday night as it was a cracking time.

Oban is a great base to explore the wider area or where you start you exploration of the islands. Lots of great pubs and restaurants. Good shopping facilities nearby if doing a self catering holiday m.
Lovely hotel in the centre of Oban, staff were very friendly and helpful , modern room with kettle and coffee machine, complimentary bottled water, robes and slippers, they have even provided yoga mats and wireless speaker in the room, spa facilities were an added bonus to relax in the sauna , use the foot spa and heated beds after a day of exploring. Breakfast was delicious and lots of choice , we also dined in the restaurant and the food was lovely, all very reasonably priced.
I was lucky enough to stay at this hotel for two days. The sea view outside the hotel is really beautiful. Sitting by the window and watching the sea view is very, very enjoyable and comfortable. The night was quiet and I slept well. The room is big and warm, all facilities are good. The breakfast was delicious. The staff there are very friendly. If I have the chance to go to Oban again, I will definitely choose to go back to this hotel.
The Manor House itself is quite beautiful and provides wonderful views of the Port of Oban. The host when we checked in, David, was very friendly, informative, and funny! He served me a 'tour of Oban Distillery' whisky flight which was incredible. He really knew his stuff!
The hotel is only a short walk away from all the main offerings of Oban. Once we arrived, we did not need to take our car anywhere to see the city.
Hotel location in Oban
Staff very friendly and helpful.
Rooms were warm and beds comfortable.
Breakfast was OK but could have had scottish touches.
Plenty of spacious public rooms which are comfortable with excellent views over the Oban harbour and town.
Tea and coffee in the room was a nice touch which doesn't happen in a lot of hotels nowadays.
What a beautiful hotel in a fantastic place! We loved every minute from the comfy lounge and roaring fire to the super friendly and helpful staff. We didn't get a chance to sample the food as we had commitments in Oban which is only a few minutes drive away. We would definitely stay here again.
Hotel was fresh and clean. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We did have a bit of a hiccup during our stay, which was rectified afterwards. Rooms have everything you need for a comfortable stay.
Location was ideal for exploring oban and in walking distance of all the local shops and pubs.
After our hotel cancelled on us the night before arriving in Oban, I'm very greatful that Perle Oban made room for us.
If arriving by train or ferry, you couldn't get a better location within walking distance. We enjoyed the downstairs bar & all staff were very pleasant & helpful.
This hotel was wonderful! We enjoyed it so much. The owners even left a whisky tasting for us from nearby Oban distillery as well as crisps and sodas. The view out the front windows was fantastic. The size of the rooms was very large. We would definitely highly recommend!!!
We have stayed here before which is why we chose to return, the hotel staff are excellent, nothing is too much, the views over Oban bay are superb,we upgraded to a junior suite which was lovely, the indoor swimming pool is fantastic too,all in all absolutely fantastic.
We always stay at the Columba Hotel when in Oban.
We had booked a standard room, however as they are quiet at this time of the year they upgraded room, - not the first time this has happened and they had no need to do it.
Excellent in every respect.
Neat apartment; well designed and equipped Really comfy bed, and kitchen, sitting and dining furniture all very practical.
Easy to check in and out via the nearby Ranald Hotel. Really central; a short walk to the centre of town and the shore.
The location was excellent and close to everything in Oban. The host helped with parking although there was plentiful options around the town. This apartment was close to restaurants, pubs and shopping.
Excellent hotel. A cosy room with a lovely bathroom in a beautiful location. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Food was delicious. A perfect overnight stay while passing through Oban on holiday.
It was fun staying in a beautiful, historic hotel. Oban is AMAZING, and staying in the heart of the city was exciting. The guy who checked us in when we arrived was funny, engaging, and enthusiastic.
Breakfast was excellent. Chose this hotel because it was dog friendly. Easy check-in. Parking was a big plus as not many hotels in the Oban area provide parking.
Meet with a smile when we arrived, rooms are spotless and in lovely condition.
Would have no reason to not stay in this hotel on our next visit to Oban.
