Gateway to the Inner Hebrides
Oban is a city built around a late 18th-century distillery that produces one of the finest single malt whiskeys in Scotland. This normally peaceful town is invaded during summer when tourists use it as a base to visit the Inner Hebrides islands such as Mull, Lismore and Coll, supporting its status as the Gateway to the Isles.
The horseshoe-shaped Oban Bay is sheltered by Kerrera Island with its spectacular Gylen Castle. Award-winning seafood restaurants and lively pubs line George Street and the waterfront of Corran Esplanade adjacent to the harbour.
Take a short walk up the hill to McCaig’s Tower, a structure based on the Roman Colosseum, for the finest views of Oban’s centre and the outer islands. When you get back down to sea level, stroll into and stumble out of the Oban whiskey distillery after sampling the local version of the 'water of life'.
Admire the coastal scenery as you travel a bit out of town to the 7th-century ruins of Dunollie Castle, home of the Clan MacDougall. The Firth of Lorn gives visitors a fanatstic opportunity to try some sea kayaking.

Oban is a bustling busy little town with many visitors and many others using the towns ferries to travel to the popular Scottish Islands ! Lots of shopping available, Plenty of places to eat and drink to suit any budget and gift shops galore probably for those with plenty of spare cash I was able to buy a waterproof jacket (hooded) having forgotten to pack my own got a great deal and made little dent in my wallet! We loved Oban Lovely to walk along the front and look over the water and identify the boats that are there. Lovely food available which made our wee two night break enjoyable for us in Oban Inn.

Oban is an absolutely beautiful coastal town with great access to the rest of the Highlands. The ferries were very easy to use and we had a wonderful time exploring the Isle of Mull and travelling past the Isle of Kerrera on the way. Also make sure to head towards Dunollie Castle and take the tour round - a great time if you enjoy history or stories of the clans. All of the food establishments that we went to were delicious and had great options. Highly recommend the ceilidh dancing on a Monday and Thursday night as it was a cracking time.AAnonymous - 10Scored 10

Sitting by the window and watching the sea view is very, very enjoyable and comfortable. The night was quiet and I slept well. The room is big and warm, all facilities are good.
