Beautiful setting by the river. Food (dinner and breakfast) good. Location on the Hadrians Wall trail ideal for walkers. Swimming pool/gym a bonus.
Set in Hexham and only 38 km from MetroCentre, Stay On The Hill - The Coach House offers accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking.

The Coach House is a beautiful place to stay when in the area. We had to take a slight detour from Hadrian‘s Wall Path, which we were on, but it was well worth it. The cottage is situated at the end of a private driveway surrounded by a luscious garden. Everything was tastefully decorated, nice and clean, the bed very comfortable, which was welcome after a long day of hiking. For dinner and breakfast we had to head down to the Boatside Inn about 20mins out, but it was well worth it, as the food was delicious, the staff lovely and the walk there and back beautiful. It also gave us an opportunity to check out the local Quoits team, which was quite fun! We hope to be back!

Hexham is a small English town, it is easy to walk to everything. Plenty of restaurants, cafes, shops and attractions. Good communications and easy to get out by bus to various hiking trails around Hadrian's Wall

Hexham is a lovely, very friendly market town. There are lots of restaurants and cafes and excellent pubs - the Globe is a great, local pub. The Forum cinema is highly recommended. Visit the Crypt in the Abbey - amazing. The old gaol museum is also worth a visit.

Great little Roman inspired town just 5 miles south of Hadrians Wall. The Abbey and it's grounds dominates the town. Many indepent shops to browse in plus well known retailers in the nearby retail parks, Enjoyed the Country Park alongside the River Tyne. Would have been great to see salmon leaping up the weir when spawning season begins. Wentworth car park with it's 24 hour white bays is perfectly located close to the town. The Abbey guide recommended nearby Corbridge to visit but we didn't have time this visit.

It is quite an interesting place in parts mainly round the market square, the abbey, old jail and the pleasure gardens but the downside is the large supermarket area and nearby chop board factory belching out smoke continually. Some interesting little shops too.

Hexham is a beautiful place, very picturesque.
Hexham is a beautiful place, very picturesque. I was visiting for a friend's wedding and didn't have a lot of opportunity to explore but I'd definitely like to visit again in the future. There was a variety of shops and the town itself is very peaceful. I visited the town's Wetherspoons and found it to be very welcoming with friendly people. I would definitely recommend a visit!

What a lovely town! Reminded me of Harrogate.
What a lovely town! Reminded me of Harrogate.
Lots of lovely independent shops, particularly a book shop which was an absolute delight. Couldn’t find a yarn shop though. Hexham Abbey is a beautiful building and part of an active parish with good choirs and an excellent organ. Great place to explore Hadrian’s Wall, the reason we were there.
The Sun Inn located in a small village in Hexham. we stayed a night as part of our Hadrian wall hiking trail.
we were greeted by a lovely lady and very clean room and nicely presented with some extra beverage than usual hotel. additional to usual tea and coffee and we had a snack bar, juice and breakfast cereal. it was a nice gesture as they were unable to offer breakfast. As they were unable to offer food the proprietor offered for us to us the lounge, cutlery and crockery for us to use with a takeaway.
A country hotel of the first class, made extra special by the delightful staff. Far better than many more expensive hotels we have stayed at. Beautifully furnished and decorated. Bed super comfortable with top range linen, room silent at night. Views from room towards Hexham and Chesters fort awesome. Food choice great for us, imaginative, well presented and tasty, with decent portions. Plenty of good parking, decent WiFi speed, ample hot water. All our boxes ticked.
Really well equipped bedsit - everything you could need. It was comfortable with lots of extra thoughtful touches eg welcome pack.
Also a lovely small outside area to have a sit/drink before going out in the evening.
Great location for walking into Hexham and within easy driving distance of many lovely villages and walks.
The communication was great right from the point of booking and Mike was available with information and help if required.
the hotel closed for the Queen’s funeral which was alarming as we were walking Hadrian’s Wall with no alternative but then graciously offered alternative accommodation in the very well equipped self catering Stables which ultimately was a significant upgrade on their part at no extra cost.
Rachel the owner really showed her caring side as a host by personally driving us the half mile to the Stables when we arrived to a closed hotel (see below)
Was 5 minute walk from Wentworth free car park, Great welcome on arrival and room overlooked athletics track and view of town above. Breakfast very filling with quality ingredients. Flat screen TV had good signal. Hotel was quiet at night so slept well. Abbey and town centre was a 15 minute walk away. Loved the Country Park River Tyne walk.
Quiet location and excellent nights sleep. Staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was freshly cooked for each customer not pre cooked like many other hotels in the Hexham area. Would definately stay again and hopefully enjoy the restaurant food too.
It is very comfortable with all the accessories you need for your stay. The location is exceptional! You can walk to everything in Hexham.
The train and bus stations are a short walk. On my next visit, to the north east, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else.
Beautiful location right on the river. Lots of history too. There is a lovely patio by the riverside and the food is great. The hotel itself is delightful but our particular room was not to our expectations.
Really friendly pub/hotel. All the staff are really good. Location was only a short walk from the centre of Hexham and free parking for 24 hours is close by.
