Beautiful little village nestled in the dales, I only stayed one night, but the area really was beautiful, lovely round the bridge very lose to the Arncliffe Arms. My stay was to take photos in Whitby which I did but came back early to enjoy a drink at the pub.Donna - 10Scored 10

The surroundings, it’s beautiful countryside. Train and bus service just round the corner. Great food, excellent hosts, basic rooms but clean and everything you need. Breakfast excellent . Admittedly, on the two occasions I've stayed here, I haven't explored the village itself much or the surrounding area. I've spent most of the day in between visiting Whitby and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (one of many activities that you, the reader, could get up to, should you decide to visit also). It is, however, easy enough to get around, the Arncliffe Arms is a great restaurant in terms of food quality (especially if you're staying there) and the Beggar's Bridge near the railway station is one place in particular that makes a tranquil retreat if your interest isn't necessarily transport focused. So, by all means, do try it out and see what you think.

One of numerous villages scattered among the Moors. Good centre for walking and getting to Whitby, "Aidensfield" (goathland),the Esk and the woods and moors. Built of typical stone and somewhat lowering in the rain on the "rare ?" occasions when it rains.

The pub itself is busy with a great atmosphere. My room was a bit small but clean and comfy. Breakfast was in the bar and was very nice, served by a cheerful lady. We had a lovely meal at the Wheatsheaf at Egton. We also enjoyed walking down the village to Beggar's Bridge (by the railway station), though note that it is quite a steep climb back up.
