Breakfast was excellent. The grounds are lovely and this is a delightful spot to relax in. Good facilities though we didn’t dine there.
The bathroom extractor fan was coated in dust (room47) but otherwise good.
A non slip mat for the shower would have helped as would a grab handle given the bath was standard narrow and quite high to get into. (We are both in our mid seventies!)
Offering a garden and garden view, Rocking Chair Farmhouse is set in Alnwick, 20 km from Bamburgh Castle and 36 km from Lindisfarne Castle.

Eglingham is a small village some 7 miles outside Alnwick with a pub. What more could you want for a base for exploring !
The only downside, which applied to all the places we visited, was that it was almost impossible to find places to eat without booking, either lunch or evening.

You definitely need a car to stay here and to explore the surrounding countryside but the village had a lovely community feel.
My husband thoroughly enjoyed chatting to locals in the bar every evening.
George and Mary who own the Tankerville Arms are the perfect hosts.
Alnwick, Alnmouth, Chillingham Castle, Lindisfarne all a short drive away.
Easy also to drive to Berwick and catch the train to Edinburgh for the day.

We stayed in the small village of Eglingham at The Tankerville Arms, the only pub. About a 20/30 Min drive in in both directions, one way to Banburgh Castle & lovely dog friendly beach & the other direction Alnwick Castle & town.

We had specific reasons to be based around the immediate area of Eglingham. The village amenities were not particularly relevant. There was a local Pub which served a good menu every evening and the surrounding countryside for walks would be an attraction.

Attractive country pub with good food, away from the hoards of people visiting the coastal resorts but it was still handy for getting to the coast at Bamburgh which was just under half an hours drive away and so we could enjoy walking on the beach. Staff very friendly and helpful.
