The staff couldn't do enough for us, they were an absolute credit to the hotel. So kind, asked about our evening and went above and beyond. We were at a concert in Edinburgh so got back very late, one of our party decided to miss breakfast and sleep more, the lady serving insisted we get something for her, offered so much and organised a bacon sandwich for us to take with us so she wouldn't go hungry. Such a sweet gesture.
The breakfast was delicious, literally one of the best hotel breakfasts we've ever had (and there's been a few haha). Very much recommend the eggs florentine and the veggie breakfast!!!
We are not one for repeat visits as we like exploring new places, but we are definitely going to organise a little trip back so we can stay again.

Really lovely stay, fab service from Brooke and her colleague, and a great room. Even with 12 milks made available. It's the little things like that, which makes a difference. I'll be back!

The hosts were incredible, from producing a meal in the evening after the kitchen was long closed, to upgrading us to a bigger room which became available, at no extra charge. Curt produced a great cooked breakfast and some unusual and tasty american style breakfasts. The evening menu was small but they were happy to produce any requests, we asked for Haggis neaps and tatties, that was no problem and was delicious. They were happy to socialise with their guests and provided some great advice about the local area. Earlston is a small village that is an easy 45min drive from Edinburgh and a great base to explore this lovely and historic area. We would highly recommend a stay at the Red Lion.

Earlston is a lovely village with some interesting history.
Earlston is a lovely village with some interesting history. There are a few nice shops but not many places to eat or stay. I did find a gem of a pub in the Black Bull, and a friendly welcome from Rose & Brian. It is one of those pubs that hasn't changed much in years but has good beer and interesting company.

This village is small but has some very interesting shops, and a couple of pubs serving food. A short walk down the main road is Rhymers cafe which serves drinks and a wide food menu. Borders bus 60 connects Earlston with the railways at Berwick upon Twees and Galashiels.

Lovely little village near Melrose with excellent access to the main A68 road for ongoing trips. Good range of small shops which include excellent little cafe. old fashioned sweet shop and fish and chip take away. Very easy to get round Earlston as it is one main street to walk along.
COVID-19 rules were strictly adhered to making one feel safe.
The owners made me feel like one of the family, very friendly and chatty but courteous and professional.
The room was good and the bathroom excellent.
Breakfast was great. The dining room was made available to guests to eat take-away food in the evening which was very convenient as no local restaurants/hotels were serving food during my stay.
Very friendly and comfortable feeling from the first minute. Very nice border town. The rooms were beautiful and a good size. A very unassuming hotel with the perfect hosts!! Although we were only there one night no real restaurant in the town the chippy was spot on and suited our needs!! Recommend the Swan pub across the road!! Had a great night with the locals!! Friendly and great place!! 👍 10/10
A very nice old fashioned style hotel, the rooms were very comfortable, well appointed and clean, beds were lovely and comfortable. Excellent home cooked food and a nice relaxed and friendly bar. Curt and Susie were the nicest, most accommodating and hard working host we have ever met. Great location for viewing the Scottish Borders.
The couple who own this hotel are the most welcoming people you could hope to meet ( they really made our stay). I loved the bar area and the eclectic mix of how they have combined everything in this room. Our bedroom was great too.
A very friendly welcome from the proprietors, and a more than hearty breakfast in the morning. All the appropriate Covid-19 measures were in place, so safe to stay for all. Earlston is a great location for touring in the Borders
Very friendly and accommodating. We truly felt welcome, almost part of the family.
Earlston is a pleasant, unpretentious little town, ideal for exploring the area and for taking the Borders rail line into Edinburgh.
I left a small but valuable item in my room. On returning home I rang the hotel, who sent someone up to check, found the item, and posted it back to me. I am still trying to speak to someone to thank them personally.
Had a one nice one night stay at the Red Lion hotel, very friendly owner and staff, nice breakfast, would have no hesitation about using this place again if in the area.
The B&B was easy to find on the main road through Earlston but the road wasn't noisy.
Excellent breakfast choices even for us vegetarians. Nicely cooked and presented.
