Very friendly helpful staff and pleasant hotel in a very convenient location. Only quibble: the tiny piece of soap slithered through the wide apart bars of the holder in the shower so inevitably landed on the floor. But it was good to have proper soap rather than a pump! Excellent generous breakfast (included).

I received a warm welcome from Amanda who was really friendly and helpful. The accommodation was very comfortable, quiet, clean and well-appointed with all I needed for a great stay. Set in the heart of the countryside, it felt tranquil and remote. I love wildlife and archaeology and was able to explore Devizes and the Ridgeway despite not having a car, but nature was literally on the doorstep too.

Friendly staff, good food, good parking and even a shop right next door. The pub part of the hotel is excellent with friendly waiting staff and a good menu.

Stopped a couple of days in Devizes on our way to Wales. Great market town with lots of food and water holes. The White Bear is a buzzing little pub, with friendly customers and attentive hosts. Will return again, when hopefully the weather is nicer to us!

Lovely Georgian town with many original buildings.
Lovely Georgian town with many original buildings. The Caen Locks of historic interest and good to walk alongside. A good cafe at the top of the locks.
We ate at an Indian Restaurant opposite the Castle Hotel; excellent food.

I like Wadworth beer and as the brewery is here there was plenty of opportunity to go beer drinking. All the pubs we tried were interesting and friendly and the beer was well kept in all of them.
We had a good walk along the canal to see the long flight of locks and there were interesting shops in the town. We liked the tea shop in the Ginnal and the bakery for sourdough bread. Everyone we met was friendly.

Devizes looks a little bit rundown.
Devizes looks a little bit rundown. Beautiful buildings are not restored and kept at their best which is a great pity. One popular eating place had filthy windows with bird excrement on them which reflects a lack of pride and cleanliness of the people who own or rent out these buildings. A lot more money needs to be invested in Devizes if it is to attract people. It would be a shame to let this historic town go to complete ruin. People should take pride in their heritage and at the very least clean their shop front, shop windows and paint the façades.
However, Devizes is better than Crewkerne and Chard.

Devizes is far too reticent about its charms.
Devizes is far too reticent about its charms. It is a lovely small market town in the heart of some glorious countryside. It is packed with history and adjacent to the beautiful Kennet & Avon Canal (especially the astonishing engineering feat of the Caen Hill Lock Flight, 30 mins' walk from the town centre). The town has many traditional pubs, and shops are quirky and individual rather than the standard chain stores you can find anywhere. (But don't come for a shopping experience.)
The hotel was easy to find although parking in Devizes was a bit of a challenge. The room was on the top floor which involved climbing some quite steep staircases, but it is an old building so is what we expected. The room was very clean and comfortable, with my wife commenting that the bed was the most comfortable she had slept in. Breakfast was served in the restaurant and was excellent. All cooked to order and the full English lived up to expectations. All in all, a lovely short break stay!
As soon as you enter The Pelican you feel welcome. The landlady is amazing remembered our drinks from our only prior visit a month ago.
We were shown to our room, it was spacious, comfortable and everything worked as it was meant to . We were given excellent recommendations for food. We were warned there was karaoke on that night ( which we didn't hear).
Absolute gem of a find, superbly located. We are already trying to find an excuse to go back to Devizes.
The Little House is in a central location in Devizes. Ideal for a couple or individual and, in our opinion, much nicer than staying in a hotel. It was spotlessly clean and very well appointed - everything had been thought of. A useful welcome pack with all the necessary items for breakfast was provided, along with WiFi, charging points, a smart TV, hairdryer, well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and contemporary shower room.
By far the best hotel in Devizes: the staff were unbelievably welcoming, as if I were a family member. Nothing was too much trouble.
Food was excellent - the service exceptional. Despite the bar being very busy on one night due to a local event - the staff still had time to make sure everything was ok, even delivering food to my room as there weren't any tables spare. Will only be staying here in future.
It had everything you could possibly need and with the hot weather they had a fan ready and waiting.
I know the area well , so can state that it's in a very good location. I was doing a charity walk so was particularly tired after walking in the heat all day, the apartment was perfect and had everything I needed.I extended my stay for another night. Can't wait to stay again.
We had a wonderful stay at the Black Swan - the historic aspect of the building gave it all the more character, renovated bathrooms and carefully curated furnishings/amenities in the rooms made for an exceptionally comfortable stay. We had both dinner and breakfast at the hotel restaurant and both were fabulous!
Very friendly helpful staff and pleasant hotel in a very convenient location. Only quibble: the tiny piece of soap slithered through the wide apart bars of the holder in the shower so inevitably landed on the floor. But it was good to have proper soap rather than a pump! Location perfect as in middle of Devizes yet quiet and tranquil. Free parking also a bonus. Bedding was high quality, bathroom spotless and recently refurbished. Breakfast, chosen from list the night before, was supplied to room in hamper which we ate in courtyard, lovely.
Lovely bubbly boutique small hotel inn - bar / restaurant food is top notch and the staff are an absolute credit to the owners. Porridge at breakfast was best I’ve ever had. Remember it’s an old inn - some creaky floorboards but that’s part of the charm
Beautiful setting in the Wiltshire countryside.
The room was lovely & comfortable & the bathroom had a large shower!
Loved the heated towel rail, plenty of outlets & mirrors.
Breakfast was excellent with a range of options all freshly cooked to order.
Nice breakfast in a basket with a hot bacon or sausage sandwich, cereal, pastry, juice, tea or coffee. Quiet, with everything one could need, especially parking in the centre of Devizes (n.b. local hotels do not have their own parking facilities).
Loved the setting, felt very tucked away and private with lovely views, yet minutes away from the centre of Devizes. Great location.
Caroline is a wonderful host and she makes a very impressive breakfast.
I'm sure I'll be back at some point.
very clean and quite neighbours'
breakfast was also really good great choices and fresh
location was brilliant not far from the town centre
the staff were very welcoming and smart and polite
nothing was to much trouble
Acceptional breakfast everything tasty and nicely cooked. Service good with a smile. Bedroom large and very comfy bed. Large, modern ensuite shower room. Really cant fault the hotel in any way.
Interesting historic hotel. Nice quiet clean single room and bathroom. Delicious breakfast that was almost perfect.
Very pleasant spacious bar area with plenty of tables.
The rooms were lovely. Loved the second floor outside patio. The staff was incredibly nice and helpful. The breakfast was one of the best we've come across at a uk hotel!
