An unexpectedly spacious room 106 and en suite. Big bay window to enjoy the view of the town centre. Very comfortable with a sofa. Location. Clean. The team; welcomed by Alex who gave us a choice of two rooms; Sue who was cleaning rooms in the morning but quickly replaced our access cards which had curiously expired.
Astonishingly good value.
We also chose to have breakfast and dinner at this Wetherspoon pub and hotel. Well known for their well kept real ales for less than £3 a pint and all other food and drinks great value. Ok, it's not high cuisine with white tablecloths and obsequious waiters but at the price why go further?

This charming traditional coaching inn is a Grade II listed building and still retains many of its beautiful original features, such as exposed wooden beams.

Great location. The hotel is a little tired in the rooms. The reception isn’t the most inviting when you walk down the path but inside is in keeping with the age of the hotel. The staff were exceptionally friendly and the bar and garden area are fantastic. Especially if the weather is nice.
The room I stayed in was large enough and the bed was very comfortable. The shower was a little dated and took about 10 minutes for the water to get hot. There was a sign advising it could take a few minutes, so it wasn’t a surprise. Breakfast was nice and straight forward. The waitress was very helpful and friendly.

So pleased to stay with other guests at the same wedding and being accommodated as a group. Well organised and helpful staff. Thanks for providing the evening buffet and breakfast - proved really popular.
Overall the rooms are bright and generous. Even family rooms made available for those with children.

Delightful hotel, wish we could have stopped longer.
Delightful hotel, wish we could have stopped longer. Little touches like blankets for sitting outside, umbrellas for walking back to the rooms, board games to play were very thoughtful. Lots to see around the area. We couldn’t eat in the hotel as it was fully booked but ate at the pub next door which was very good.

Some attractions such as Puzzle Wood and Clearwell Caves are within easy walking distance but when you get near them they are all on a main road without a footpath. We walked to Puzzle Wood with four children and decided not to go in by the main entrance as it involved a stretch of busy road. This was not appreciated by staff, so recommendation is to drive everywhere!
Absolutely charming hotel. Rooms are a great standard with a beautifully ensuite, lovely range of products ,extremely comfy and thoughtfully set out wigh fridge and dressing table. Outside is beautifully landscaped with lovely areas to sit outside and enjoy a drin. Resterant serves delicious meals with an extensive wine menu. Delicious breakfast was served in the morning. Set in the idilic Village of Clearwell which is a great location for all the Forest of Dean has to offe
The room was located in a lodge with remote access functioning exactly as the hotel informed us. Perfect for our needs, large car park and located in a lovely village. I must say, the bed was exceptionally comfortable and large, room clean and beautifully appointed bathroom, albeit the toilet needs to be moved a little away from the wall. Very cosy for our needs overall and a nice breakfast provided next door.
We were attending a family wedding at Clearwell Castle. We picked the hotel because of how close it was to the castle. It was perfect for what we needed it for. The room was very clean and the en-suite was nice and clean too. Parking was easy and close by.
As we were staying to attend a wedding at Clearwell castle, we didn’t get to use the facilities of the hotel this time but were impressed with what we saw. The room was fine , plenty of comfy bedding towels etc and nice bathroom
