Actually we we're there to visit Chapeltown, we were at a wedding in Wisewood and the hotel was quite handy and inexpensive. However, as far as I saw the area is quiet. Reasonably close both to the Peak District and the City centre. However I wouldn't recommend if the main purpose of the visit is to visit the city - it's too far out.

Placed in a beautiful setting in the foothills of the 'Peaks' amongst well kept gardens and parading peacocks making their presence felt. I was expecting a Best Western type venue but what I got was the kind of individual service attention only found in luxury hotels. Dating back to 1581 the reception area was black oak beams, stone chimney-pieces and antiquity. The dinner was beautifully cooked finished with hot apricot pudding dessert. Breakfast was fabulous with a selection of items to suit all guests - and the lovely treats provided in the bedroom were an added bonus. Large, clean rooms with furniture to match the age & style of the building. The hotel has a quaint bar & restaurant, although living locally & having eaten in the restaurant several times in my opinion there is better food & value elsewhere but it’s a nice dining experience in pleasant surroundings.
