The location of this hotel is outstanding, the view is incredible. The staff were all lovely and engaging and clearly passionate about wanting customers to have a lovely stay with them.
We had an issue with our room which was resolved in a satisfactory manner and the manager was open to feedback to improve the facilities.
The historic Greyhound @ Shap dates back to 1680, offering some rooms with views of the Fells, a modern bar with a selection of real-ales, two dining areas, as well as outdoor seating in our patio...

The road (4 miles) to Bampton from Shap is extremely narrow with few passing places here and there and has to be driven with great care because you can meet buses, lorries and farm vehicles. The road (2 miles) from Bampton to Haweswater is equally narrow and has to be driven with great care.

Haweswater Hotel is miles from anywhere so a lot of driving needed , as for all the Lakes I presume. Perfect if you want peace and quiet, great views and wonderful walks. Bampton village itself is very small with few facilities.

The area is quiet, accessed by narrow lanes all worth exploring . The hamlet of Bampton sold the cheapest petroleum for miles. Locals were delightful. Be prepared to travel for 30-50 minutes to reach other key locations in The Lakes.

If like me you are not a seasoned walker take the lower walk at the bottom of the reservoir which snakes around a peninsula and gives unbelievable views. Eat dinner at the Hotel during your stay the food and services are top quality. Weather permitting take time to have a drink on the seats at the front/side of the Hotel and just enjoy the peace.

Excellent base location for walkers who want to get straight out on to the fell. Haweswater and the surrounding hills are a perfect jumping off point for those wanting to join high street and other ranges in the lakes.

Lovely drive to a stunning location.
Lovely drive to a stunning location. Takes you to a peaceful relaxing place in a lovely building. Great staff, beautiful decor and gorgeous suites.
Food was excellent and service was perfect. Enjoyed every moment and wish we had stayed longer x
Great view out the front of the hotel (and probably the rooms in front if you’re lucky enough to nab one!). The restaurant was spectacular — the food and service was great. We both loved how the Art Deco theme in the hotel carries throughout everything. We also both love the historic photos and things from the area before the dam was built—very interesting! Lastly, the music was fantastic as well — it set such a romantic atmosphere for the whole building (but that’s speaking as someone who really loves music from the 40s and 50s!).
I cannot imagine a more idyllic location. This should be a movie set it’s so beautiful. From the staff to the original art deco details and the gorgeous gardens it’s hard to believe this place is real. The food was absolutely amazing: breakfast, lunch, and both dinner restaurants. Beautiful and comfortable common rooms and exquisite scenery. I want to move in to this hotel.
Beautiful hotel which was perfectly located for our visit. Fab views out onto the reservoir. Our room had a plunge bath which my usually non-bath loving husband was obsessed with! Great drinks in the bar (both selection and taste) and the food was fantastic in both the restaurant and bar. Super friendly staff who couldn’t do enough for you.
The location excellent but really is in the middle of no where all the roads single track with passing points I saw my first ever red squirrel. So for me it was worth it drive slowly red squirrels every where. Also it was an 1940s hotel so if your of that era you may remember It however was not mine..
The location and the view were exceptional!
We had a meal in the hotel, which was an experience in itself - would definitely recommend, the staff in the restaurant were informative and welcoming!
The hotel and the room itself were decorated beautifully and the bed was very comfortable.
Just a fantastic hotel. Some hotels say they are pet friendly when really they are pet tolerant. This place really is pet friendly and have clearly gone out of their way to think about what works best eg separate dining rooms for owners with pets.
The staff were wonderful - friendly, helpful, responsive. And the location is lovely, with lots of walking and cycling possibilities, although there was no drying room at the hotel for wet walking gear.
The Art Deco interior was amazing and the hotel staff were very friendly and attentive. The rooms were comfortable and well equipped. The restaurant food was amazing and of a very high standard.
The hotel is in such a lovely location, and beautifully decorated in an art- deco style. I found them
very dog friendly which is crucial for me! The food was delicious too.
