The hosts make the homestay. Wasantha and his family are incredibly welcoming, friendly, and honestly good people you can see with you eyes. He was incredibly supportive in helping us sort out transport options for Anuradhapura and region, things to do nearby (not just tourist attractions, but also Ayurvedic shop where we’re not ripped off). Most importantly, he helped us sort out our PCR tests to return home — phoning clinics, setting our appointments, and even taking us all the way to Colombo in the early morning for it. I think we would never have made it without him. Anuradhapura is a spread-out city where things require tuk-tuk to be visited, and Wasantha can sort that all out in a fair and transparent manner. We got to know even more than we were aware of, such as the beautiful ancient Ritigala forest monastery ruins (had the place for myself!!) and the hike at Mihintale, which is not to be missed at any cost. You’ll be staying within Wasantha’s home, eating at his table, and having your private room and bathroom. It’s a delightfully personal experience that added a lot to my Sri Lanka trip.

We loved everything! But the hosts were something extra. They helped us with everything, for example solving a dental emergency, driving us to the bus stop, driving us to a lunch place and organising acitivites. When we arrived we mentioned that we had been to a cooking class in Negombo and that we had enjoyed that a lot. The owner then directly set up a little cooking class for us to do with his family. We were cooking with the family and we had an amazing time and amazing food. If we ever come back to Anuradhapura we will for sure stay here again!

We just had a perfect stay. The welcome was amazing, they prepared us an amazing juice plus they gave us a super good explanation on what we could do in the city, including a map with all the key points of the Sacred City. They arranged everything for us :) We also had dinner there and the food was wonderful. That’s the place! The room was comfy, clean and with a nice warm shower!
